Event Description
Anywhere from Thanksgiving Day to New Years Eve (Nov. 26 - Dec. 31, 2020) complete 12 days of running with specific mileage, while conquering holiday-themed challenges. THE 12 DAYS OF RUNNING/WALKING DO NOT NEED TO BE CONSECUTIVE.
All proceeds will go toward the host city's local Food Shelf and Angel Tree.
Those who complete all 12 challenges within the timeframe (Nov. 26 - Dec. 31) will receive a finisher's medal (click here for picture -----> https://builder.crownawards.com/StoreFront/ImageCompositionServlet?files=jsp/builderimages/BaseFiles/medals/CM09RNDRG.png,jsp/builderimages/Ribbon/RI2020SP.png,,&width=378&trim=true ).
Picture proof and/or finishing time must be submitted for completed challenges. There will be an extra reward for the overall fastest time (for the total 12 days), and the overall most creative pictures.
Race times and pictures can be submitted every day, or just once at the end of your challenges. You can submit to dexi.maxa@gmail.com, or to our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/12-Days-of-Christmas-Virtual-RunWalk-Challenge-100301305225211/?modal=admin_todo_tour
Race t-shirts (long or short sleeved) can be purchased for an additional cost.
Challenges:
(You can improvise as needed! It is meant to be fun-- not to follow super strict guidelines.)
Day 1
Show off your festive pajamas on this 1 mile run. Bonus points if it is a onesie.
Day 2
Find your ugliest sweater to wear on your 2 run. Bonus points if it lights up or plays music.
Day 3
Run, run, Rudolph! Take your dog with you and dress him/her up as Rudolph (channeling your inner Grinch) on this 3 mile run. No dog? YOU are Rudolph, wear the antlers & nose on your run--or borrow the neighbor’s dog. Bonus points if you dress up as the Grinch, too.
Day 4
Yule logs are traditionally burned to keep you warm at Christmas. Find a yule log to carry on your 4 mile run today. You pick the size & species--but bonus points if it looks kind of like a Christmas tree.
Day 5
At the start, finish, and every mile of your 5 mile run in between, stop & build your best Frosty the Snowman or make your best snow angel in the snow. (No snow? Make a snow angel, go through the motions of it, in the grass/field).
Day 6
Make sure there’s decorations along your 6 mile run today. At the start, finish, and every mile in between, stop to take a selfie with whatever decorations you find! Bonus points if you find decorations that play music!
Day 7
Deliver 7 homemade/educational gifts to 7 strangers in mailboxes or along your 7 mile run (7 to represent 7 principles of Kwanzaa and homemade/educational gifts because that is what is normally exchanged on the last day of Kwanzaa. If you can’t make them purchase small gifts from a small business preferably from a black-owned business).
Day 8
Deliver 8 gelts to strangers along your 8 mile run or in 8 strangers’ mailboxes (gelts or chocolate coins are part of a Jewish tradition & are often used when playing Dreidel & 8 to represent the number of days the Temple lantern blazed in Jewish tradition). Don’t have chocolate gelts? Any chocolate candy will do.
Day 9
Channel your inner Billy Bob Thorton’s Bad Santa & stop every mile, on your 9 mile run, to take a sip (or chug!) of eggnog. Wear your best Santa outfit--bonus points if the egg nog is spiked!
Day 10
Just hear those sleigh bells jingling, ring-ting-tingaling too. Come on it’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you...Just kidding! You can’t skip the running part. Wear your sleigh bells--around your waist, neck, wrists, hat, or on your shoes--either way, enjoy them jingling, ring-ting-tingaling for the next 10 miles.
Day 11
Find your best Will Ferrell Elf outfit to wear; stopping every mile, during your 11 mile run, to SHOUT LOUDLY “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.” (Bonus points if you record yourself doing this & throw a snowball at anyone who looks at you--we all know Buddy the Elf loves snowball fights).
Day 12
Run with a baby Jesus in your arms--or in a swaddle, or a stroller. Make sure he’s bundled up if you're in a colder climate, for all 12 miles. He is the reason for the season! Bonus points if you have a manger to put Him in at the end. Selfies expected along the way--be a proud Joseph or Mary.
Celebrate! When you are finished with all 12 days, run to your local bar or restaurant for a hot cocoa or a Bailey's coffee!
Challenges in Poem form:
On the 1st day of Christmas
My race host laid down laws
Run 1 mile in festive pajamas
On the 2nd day of Christmas
My race host said you better
Run 2 miles with an ugly sweater
On the 3rd day of Christmas
My race host made me jog
3 miles with a Rudolph dog
On the 4th day of Christmas
My race host made me jog
4 miles with a Yule log
On the 5th day of Christmas
My race host told me to go
Run 5 miles making angels in snow
On the 6th day of Christmas
My race host told me to run
6 miles finding decorations
On the 7th day of Christmas
My race host told me to deliver
7 gifts in 7 miles to a neighbor
On the 8th day of Christmas
My race host said, “Guess what?”
Run 8 miles with 8 chocolates
On the 9th day of Christmas
My race host made me jog
9 miles with spiked eggnog
By the 10th day of Christmas
My race host can go to hell
While I run 10 miles with sleigh bells
On the 11th day of Christmas
My race host said listen here...
Run 11 miles spreading Christmas cheer
On the 12th day of Christmas
My race host said don’t be alarmed
Run 12 miles with baby Jesus in your arms
Time to celebrate! Run to the local bar, or a local restaurant, for a hot cocoa or a Bailey’s coffee when you have completed all of your missions!
