Event Description

Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma's Behavioral Health Grant Programs (Native Connections, Circles of Care, SPFRX, and TOR) are hosting a virtual (and FREE!) 5k walk/run/movement challenge!
We value movement and the benefits that it generates for all of our mental health and well-being! 

Please join us during the week of May 30th-June 5th in completing the virtual 5k (which is 3.1 miles CONSECUTIVELY) in whatever way you see fit! You can track your 3.1 miles (that you will complete in ONE activity) through your phone, watch, or app during May 30th- June 5th and then you must submit your results to us (no later than June 12th) to receive your FREE T-shirt. You will be able to submit your results through your runsign.com registration during May 30th- June 12th. T-SHIRT/PACKET PICK UP WILL BE MONDAY, JUNE 14TH (LOCATION TBD). OUT OF TOWN PARTICIPANTS WHO SUBMIT RESULTS WILL HAVE THEIR T-SHIRT/PACKETS MAILED TO THEM. 

  • Native Americans experience serious psychological distress 1.5 times more than the general population.

  • Native Americans experience PTSD more than twice as often as the general population.

  • Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death, and 2.5 times the national rate, for Native American youth in the 15-24 age range. 

  • Exercise reduces stress levels and reverses stress induced brain damage, creating new brain cells, and healing from substance abuse. 

  • Exercise is scientifically proven to be a mood booster and improve brain performance which decreases symptoms of both depression and anxiety.
