Running > Relay

Event Description

This is a three day relay race through the mountains of Montana. The teams are from 6-12 people with a set distance each day, from point A to point B. The route is designated and legs are designated. This is almost entirely on mountain dirt roads and single track trails with support vehicles chasing each runner and dropping runners off at the exchange zones. There are portions of the race that are unsupported single track where the vehicles drive around a mountain that a runner runs over the top of. Each day is around 70 miles (plus or minus a bit) and legs vary from .3 miles to about 13 miles. An average leg is about 4 miles long. You can find a description and Relive videos of the legs on our website.
In the evenings after the running is over you can do what you like. The ends of days 1 and 2 end near White Sulphur Springs which is a small town with several eateries and a very tasty brewery. They also have lovely hot springs you can soak in! Most people choose to camp out in tents but there are motels available in White Sulphur Springs if that’s preferred. Those arrangements must be made on your own.
Day 3 ends at the family ranch where we do a big breakfast (for dinner) for the post race awards. This is where teams get their prizes and scholarship winners will be announced. The scholarships will go to two people. One will go to a high school senior entering an educational program (I.e. trade school or university) and a second scholarship will be provided to someone beyond their freshman year (sophomore-senior, graduate school, etc.)
The race is always the second weekend in July and starts in Townsend Montana on July 9 and runs through July 11 2021.
