Event Description
We are proud to announce race courses for our Miles on Main Street that have been crafted to avoid route confusion. We’ve worked hard to route these races as straight as possible. As these are road races, please be extra careful! We will have electronic event announcement boards the week prior and during the race to alert drivers to watch out for racers, as well as volunteers and available town police officers who help to monitor traffic on the road. Nonetheless, you are assuming all risks associated with a road race and we encourage you to take all precautions necessary, such as being alert to oncoming traffic and refraining from wearing earbuds on portions of the course where there is traffic. With that said, be safe and have fun! Let’s make the inaugural Revolutionary Run, the first-ever race of the Miles on Main Series, one to remember!
1 MILE SPARKLER
It’s your time to shine like a sparkler on beautiful Main Street, Tazewell, Virginia. Walk or run this 4th of July themed event! Like our forefathers, you will head west from the start and finish line at Tazewell County Public Library. Instead of crossing the Atlantic, you will be crossing Main Street. As you descend on West Main Street, you’ll be surrounded by the tranquility that our Main Street offers during the summer. What could be more American than baseball?! It’s batter up as you reach the halfway point around the Little League Fields. As you tackle the big hill back on to central Main Street, watch out for a surprise! Finish strong, as you race towards the finish line back at the library. Victory is yours! ‘MERICA!
FIRECRACKER 5K
Like our forefathers, you will head west from the start line at Tazewell County Public Library. Instead of crossing the Atlantic, you will be crossing beautiful Main Street, Tazewell, Virginia. The first leg of this journey, at just a little over one mile, is a steady decline in elevation to help you establish your race pace. For the next half of a mile, you will encounter some rocky waves. Once you have crossed the pond--Seven Springs Trout Pond, that is--or in this case passed beside it on the road, you will reach the halfway mark. As you turn around, prepare for battle and charge the enemy full steam ahead, declining and then suddenly facing some challenging hills on your way back to Main Street. You’ll hit a good ¼ mile of straight stretch around the transition between the second and third miles, but look out for a waterfall of enemy fire as you begin your final ascent onto central Main Street! Alas, you are at the final stretch and can sprint across the finish line back at the library. Victory is yours! ‘MERICA!
MINUTEMEN 10K
For this race, it’s time to bring out the big guns--and you better believe we’re talking about your muscles. You’re going to need them for this challenging course. Like our forefathers, you will head west from the start and finish line at Tazewell County Public Library. Instead of crossing the Atlantic, you will be crossing beautiful Main Street, Tazewell, Virginia. The first leg of this journey, at just a little over one mile, is a steady decline in elevation to help you establish your race pace. For the next few miles, you will encounter some rocky waves. Once you have crossed the pond--Seven Springs Trout Pond, that is--or in this case passed beside it on the road, you will encounter your own Battle of Bunker Hill. You will soon pass historic Frog Level and veer right. Soon after running past the road entrance to the majestic Witten Valley, Paul Revere will warn you that the British are coming, and you will have to gallop east back towards Main Street to escape capture! As you run the last half of the race, you will surely encounter peaks and valleys that challenge you. Prepare for battle and charge the enemy full steam ahead, as you decline and then suddenly face challenging hills on your way back to Main Street. Look out for a waterfall of enemy fire as you begin your final ascent onto central Main Street! Alas, you are at the final stretch and can sprint across the finish line back at the library. Victory is yours! ‘MERICA!
