Event Description

Half in Pennsylvania. Half in Maryland. A Half to remember!

Join us on Labor Day weekend for the Big Savage Half Marathon! On Saturday, September 4th, experience one of the most unique and beautiful half marathon courses. Participants will traverse a compact crushed limestone rail trail that crosses monumental features including: The Eastern Continental Divide and the Mason - Dixon Line. In addition, participants run through the 7th longest bike trail tunnel in the United States at 3,295 feet in length - the Big Savage Tunnel (hence, the race name!). The Big Savage Tunnel was completely renovated in the early 2000s and is fully lit. Once participants exit the Big Savage Tunnel, they are met by stunning views of the valley below. Not only do participants experience the Big Savage Tunnel, but they also get to explore Maryland's Borden Tunnel (957 ft) constructed in 1911. The Great Allegheny Passage is consistently ranked as one of the top rail trails in the United States!
