Event Description
Join the fight against Glioblastoma with a day of tennis, walking/running, yard games, and refreshments!
The highlight of this event will be the inaugural "Hustle, Hit, Never Quit" tennis tournament in memory of Landon Meece. Landon passed away in the summer of 2020 after battling the most aggressive form of brain cancer, Glioblastoma. He was an avid tennis player, coach, and mentor. Proceeds will benefit the Landon Meece Memorial Scholarship Fund in conjunction with KBSTRONG - Fighting the Fight!
Events:
1. Doubles Tennis Tournament: Create a doubles team and showcase your tennis skills (or lack there of) and compete to win a coveted trophy! There will be 3 flights (beginner, intermediate, advanced), and each flight will have up to 8 teams. All teams are guaranteed a minimum of 2 matches. Each match will be a 6-game pro set. Awards will be given to 1st and 2nd place finishers in each flight. Registration is $30 per person ($60 per doubles team) and includes t-shirts, tournament play, lunch, and refreshments. Limited spots are available so sign up today!
2. Pre-Tournament Tennis Lessons with Hannah Meece: Hannah Meece and current ISU Women's tennis players will be hosting an hour of group tennis lessons before the tournament to explore the sport or to warm up for a day of tournament play. All ages (kids included) and levels are welcome! Registration is $15 per person with an option to purchase a t-shirt at an additional cost.
3. Laps for Landon: Not a tennis player but still want to support a great cause? No problem--we have an event for you too! Run or walk 0.45 mile laps (approximately) around McGraw Park. Each lap will earn you a playing card. After 5 laps, you will have your Poker hand. The best Poker hand wins an awesome prize--but every participant that turns in a completed poker hand of 5 cards will be rewarded with an ice cream treat! There will also be an opportunity to opt out of laps the day of the event by donating $5 for each skipped lap to the cause! If you do extra laps you'll have more cards to choose from to create your best poker hand! This is not a timed event, so run or walk at your own pace throughout the day from 10-3! Registration is $15 per person with an option to purchase a t-shirt at an additional cost.
