Event Description

We are thrilled to once again offer our annual 5k Fox Trot! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will be offering the race this year in a virtual format instead of at the Cayuga Nature Center. This allows runners, walkers, and bikers to complete the race from anywhere at anytime between September 24–26! We encourage you to dress up in your best fox attire, join up with a group of friends or run your favorite scenic route!

This run was inspired by Daisy, the Nature Center’s red fox Animal Ambassador. This past year, we’ve added another red fox to our Animal Ambassador program–Cinder!

Runners of all ages are encouraged to participate in this event to help us fundraise for the animal programs at the Nature Center.  During this difficult time, our physical doors have been closed to the public. While we are not yet sure of when our Lodge will reopen, we continue to offer free public trail access, outdoor education programs, and maintain our 6-story treehouse. In order to continue to offer these programs to the public, we need your help!

Proceeds of this year’s 5K will support the Nature Center’s Animal Ambassadors and animal education programs. The center provides indoor and outdoor opportunities to learn about the Earth and its life, focusing especially on the natural history of the Cayuga Basin. As part of this effort, the Nature Center is home to dozens of mammals, birds, reptiles and amphibians, including a great number of species native to this region.

The Cayuga Nature Center relies on support from many people to help its educational efforts. If you are not a runner/walker, you can still donate to the cause by clicking the button on the registration page that says “Donate to our Animal Ambassadors”.  All funds raised, including registration fees and donations, will go to the animals at the Cayuga Nature Center.

The nature center is located at 1420 Taughannock Boulevard in Ithaca, just 3 miles south of Taughannock Falls State Park on State Route 89. While we are not holding this year’s race in person, we encourage you to visit before or after the virtual race on your own time!
