Event Description

Get Active! Virtual Challenge in November

Registration From October 22nd to November 9th

As we enter a season of thankfulness, gratitude and giving, there is no better time than the month of November to participate in a challenge to engage in fitness, health, and social interaction as best we can during these times of isolation.

We are asking you to take the time to consider having some fun with co-workers, colleagues, friends and/or family this year during our season of giving for the Charitable Fund Drive.

This month-long challenge will allow for you to create teams of eight or less people. They don’t need to work with the State of Oregon. They can be your next-door neighbor, an out-of-state friend, or your co-workers. The options are endless.

Entry into the challenge will cost $10 per person/per team will all proceeds going directly donated toward the Charitable Fund Drive through United Way.

The Challenge is that each team will try to walk, run, hike or use their wheelchairs, if possible, to collectively complete the Pacific Crest Trail in Oregon of 455 miles. If you are interested in forming a biking team, that will be made possible while registering. You will form your biking team by choosing that option upon registration. If you are a team of eight that choose to walk run, hike or use their wheelchairs, this means each team member is responsible for completing (anywhere they would like to) about 56 miles per person by November 30th at 11:59 PM. If you are on a team of ten that choose to bike, this means each team member is responsible for completing (anywhere they would like to) 265 miles per person by November 30th at 11:59 PM. There will be prizes for the Best Dressed Team (so if you like to get active in costumes, this is your chance!), Most Funds Raised, and First-to-Reach-455 miles and First-to-Reach-2650-miles for the biking teams.

Team leaders/captains will create their team’s fundraising page, but everyone will register and pay the entry fee to join in on the challenge for the entire month of November. The Challenge’s website will lead you to all the information necessary to participate. You will track the miles you complete each day on a mile-tracker app called, Strava or Garmin; send the proof to my e-mail; manually log your miles; and add to your team’s collective total.

In addition to tracking your miles, you will be raising funds with your team’s fundraising page. You can set whichever monetary goal your team has in mind to raise for the entire month of November. This is still a fundraising event so we want to encourage sharing links of your fundraising page or coming up with any other creative ideas that will help generate more donations to the United Way for this year’s Charitable Fund Drive.

On top of tracking your miles and raising funds through the RunSignUp website, there will be links that will allow you to join the Facebook group page where you can communicate with all participants. This month-long challenge is encouraging social engagement and interaction, even if just virtually. This will allow for all of those participating to strike up conversations about trails around Oregon, or in other states, that individuals would feel like using to complete their daily miles. Participants, while on different teams, can provide advice and healthy tips for fitness, health and general well-being as we partake on the most important part of this challenge, getting active and staying active.

Further questions and instructions will be on the race website, but questions can be asked via our direct e-mails or on the Facebook group page.
