RACE DETAILS
Join us in-person or virtually at the One Mile Fox run on January 1, 2022! This race will be a fun, healthy, family-friendly, and walker-friendly way to kick off the New Year! This course is NOT your usual “flat and fast” road mile – instead we are offering you “guts and glory!” In true celebration of the Maplecrest Park / Springfield Ave neighborhood of Maplewood, New Jersey, this course will treat you to beauty, thrilling downhills, and challenging uphills. Heats will be time-seeded for safety and excitement.
This race will be chip timed by Second Wind Race Timing, who will provide all the best race day tech - two results kiosks so that you can check your time immediately after finishing, emailed results, an LED finish line clock, and a fun, inflatable finish line arch.
Registration is only $16 ($14 for 2022 SOMA Fox Running Club members*) and $10 for youth (<14 years of age). Entry fee is non-refundable. Bib transfers are permitted – please email us at somafoxrunningclub@gmail.com if you wish to transfer your bib. Our fully awesome swag item – a black and white, SOMA Fox Running Club 2022 pom-pom hat – is available as an add-on for $12. Our SFRC masked-fox gaiters are available as an add-on for $11.
PLEASE NOTE ONLINE REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE AT 11:59 PM ON DECEMBER 26TH. Race-day registration will be available at the gazebo from 9:00am to 9:30am on January 1.
And because we believe healthy choices should be available to everyone, 25% of the profits from this race will be donated to our charity partner, Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity (MEND), bringing fresh, healthy food to our food-insecure neighbors in Essex County.
*Please note you must register for the 2022 SFRC membership before registering for this race in order to qualify for the discount. SFRC memberships are pro-rated and cover the calendar year 1/1 to 12/31. All 2021 memberships will expire 12/31/2021. SFRC membership is for adults 18 years and older. AWARDS
We will recognize the 1st place winner in the following categories (age groups to be determined): 1. Male, 2. Female, 3. Open, 4. Youth Male (<14), 5. Youth Female (<14), 6. Youth Open (<14). Winners will be determined by chip timing for in-person racers only.
DATE AND TIME
January 1, 2022, with in-person heats starting at 10:00am. We will email you your heat and start time on December 28. Race day registration and bib pick-up opens at 9am. Virtual participants can run any time on January 1, 2022 on a one-mile course of their own choosing.
LOCATION
Race headquarters will be at Springfield Avenue Gazebo, 1662 Springfield Ave, Maplewood, NJ, 07040
The start and finish line will be on Tuscan Road between Springfield Ave and Maplecrest Park.
Race headquarters will include a first aid station, bag check, sponsors tables, team tables, and post-race water and bananas for the participants wearing bibs. Porta potties will be available nearby in Maplecrest Park by the playground.
When parking your car, please be a good neighbor! There is street parking on Springfield Avenue, along Maplecrest Park, and in nearby municipal lots.

TEAMS
You can affiliate with a team when you join – if your team has 10 or more registered runners, we will give you a space at race headquarters for a table or a tent! You don’t need to be an official running team or club – you are welcome to form a team of family, friends, co-workers, whatever – just for this race! If you don’t see your team listed, please reach out to somafoxrunningclub@gmail.com and we will happily add you in!
COVID-19 PROTOCOLS
We encourage participants to wear a face covering/mask during check-in, at the start/end of the race, and at the aid station.
SOMA FOX RUNNING CLUB
The SOMA Fox Running Club (SFRC) was established in 2021 as a 501c3 non-profit organization in New Jersey, serving South Orange / Maplewood and the surrounding towns. We are a member organization of Road Runners Club of America (RRCA).
Our mission is to promote and extend the joys of running to our community through group workouts, camaraderie, runner-to-runner support, and hosting local races and events. We welcome all levels of runners from absolute beginners to the highly experienced or super speedy. We welcome runners ages 18 and up, all genders, and all backgrounds. We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion through promoting a safe, welcoming, and respectful community. We strive to share the mental and physical benefits of running with everyone who joins, no matter their running goals.
And, we believe in giving back to our community. Because we firmly believe that all people should have access to healthy food to achieve their own goals, our charity partner is Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity (MEND). We pledge to donate a percentage of all funds raised to MEND.
