Event Description

The 80/20 Endurance Virtual Challenge is a monthlong festival of virtual races. There are 20-minute and 80-minute race options for cycling, running, and swimming. Included with your paid registration is a free, four-week training plan of your choice. Hosted on the TrainingPeaks platform, these plans--which are available in three levels: beginner, intermediate, and advanced--were created by the coaches at 80/20 Endurance, the world's leading provider of training plans for endurance athletes, exclusively for Challenge participants. The registration window opens New Year's Day, 2022, and you can complete your virtual race(s) anytime in the month of February, making the 80/20 Endurance Virtual Challenge the perfect way to start your year of fitness.

The cost of registration for each time-trial event is $20.80. You can sign up for as many events as you like, but you must pay a separate registration fee for each. If you choose to register for events in more than one sport discipline (e.g., cycling and running), we suggest you choose a free triathlon plan for your training.

Results will be ranked by distance covered for swim and run time trials and by average watts for cycling time trials. (This means you need to use a bike equipped with a power meter.) Swim trials can be done anywhere you like, cycling time trials may be done either outdoors or indoors, and run time trials should be done outdoors, as most treadmills are not accurately calibrated. Our hosting platform is not equipped to receive device data uploads, so results are self-reported using the honor system. In addition to being honest, please be as accurate as possible in recording your results.

The 80/20 Endurance Virtual Challenge was created to benefit the 80/20 Endurance Foundation's Coaches of Color Initiative, which seeks to improve diversity in endurance sports by awarding apprenticeship grants to people of color who aspire to careers as endurance coaches. Our goal is raise $25,000, which is the amount needed to fully fund one yearlong apprenticeship. One hundred percent of the organizer's share or registration fees goes directly to the 80/20 Endurance Foundation. If you wish to support the Coaches of Color Initiative over and above this amount, you are welcome to make an additional, tax-deductible donation and/or become a Challenge fundraiser.
