Event Description

Have you ever taken on the challenge of racing a 300 ton steam engine for 53 miles? Now is your chance. Man Vs Machine will be a one day, one way road bike event that begins at the Grand Hotel in Tusayan, AZ near the edge of the Grand Canyon’s south rim and will travel 53 miles south to historic Williams, Arizona. Experience the rush of going head to head against a 1923 300 ton steam engine.

The race begins on Highway 64 in Tusayan at 11 am on September 30th, 2017 and travels 53 miles south with the finish line on Historic Route 66 at the intersection of 2nd Street and Historic Route 66, adjacent to the Grand Canyon Railway Depot. The race travels 50 miles on Highway 64 before merging on to Historic route 66 for the final 3 miles. The event is completely permitted by the Arizona Department of Transportation and will have traffic control on the entire route. The route will be monitored by law enforcement from the Coconino County Sherriff’s Department, Arizona Highway Patrol and the Williams Police Department. You can ride any type of bike as long as you can ride it safely in large groups. Recumbents and handbikes are acceptable types of bikes. Aerobars are NOT allowed in the Man vs Machine event.
