Event Description

A NEW TAKE ON OUR TRADITIONAL WALK FOR LIFE…5 Mile RUN has been added!

To keep our community as safe as possible, we’re offering two unique running/walking opportunities! In order to bring you some normalcy — and some of your favorite Run traditions — during these times!

Please join us as we raise funds to support the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center’s mission: which provides scholarships and funding to support enrichment programs and activities for Hancock and Washington County Cancer Patients. Contributions are tax deductible and additional donations are appreciated. support our cancer community!

The Walk will take place on Saturday, May 21, 2022 in Addison, at the Addison Town Hall.

The annual Walk For Life brings together people of all ages from Hancock and Washington Counties, who believe that the free programs and services offered by the Beth Wright Cancer Resource Center are vitally needed. This year’s Walk is not the way we envisioned celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the event that was started in memory of Beth Charczynski Wright, founded this organization before her death at age 28. On the other hand, we didn’t want this year to pass without recognizing and celebrating this important milestone.

We hope that you will again be able to participate in and support the Walk, our biggest fundraiser, to the best of your ability. A successful Walk is needed to bring in the funds necessary to ensure that our programs and services are offered at no cost to people living with cancer in Washington and Hancock Counties. The pandemic has also resulted in reductions in grant opportunities, fewer donations, and an inability to host other in-person events and fundraisers.

COVID-19 Update: We have been closely watching the current health crisis surrounding COVID-19 and taking all CDC recommendations into consideration. Because of these recommendations, we have decided to switch this year’s Walk For Life to a Hybrid: In-person and virtual event.

Hosting a virtual race: will allow those who feel they need to continue supporting our community while still observing safe and respectful social and physical distancing practices.

What is a Virtual Race? A virtual race is a race that can be run (or walked) from any location you choose. You get to run, jog, or walk your own route, at your own pace, and time it yourself. You are no longer restricted to our race course, but you may choose to run on the road, on a trail, or on a treadmill. Participants will complete the run/walk at a time and place convenient for them. Participants may either run on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10am, or at any time of the day or night over the next week, ended Monday, May 23, 2022 5:00 PM to complete the race.

All events and distances are still scheduled: 5 Mile.

You'll post your race pictures (and running time from your device if you want) on our Facebook page.

Hosting an in-person race: as we return to racing in person, we are holding events with strict social distancing guidelines. Read below for more information about some of the policies and procedures we're implementing in our in-person races.

At this time, all runners should protect their health and safety and that of others by social distancing while running. Please stay up-to-date on the latest news and guidelines from the CDC’s guidance and your local and national authorities. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact us.

Health Screening: Runner must be healthy to attend and participate (follow government guidelines for outdoor event). If you are sick or do not feel well on the day of the race, please do not show up. We appreciate your understanding.
