Event Description
The Superhero Fun Run for a Cure was created to raise funds for blood cancer research in honor of local children who are blood cancer survivors, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Boy & Girl of the Year. Since then, the event has taken place every year and all proceeds continue to be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. In 2017, the Superhero Fun Run for a Cure will continue to donate the proceeds of the event to the LLS through its Man and Woman of the Year fundraising campaigns and its Team in Training program. For more information about LLS, please visit the LLS website.
Event details and schedule
This fun run is a fundraising and family-friendly event to defeat blood cancer. Join us for fun, exercise, and to support a great cause. All proceeds to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There will be a 1 mile, 5k, or 10k option for Super-Heroes (The 10k is a 2 loop run). Junior Super-Heroes will have a 100-yard dash. All ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.
Runners and walkers are welcome. Jogging strollers are permitted in this event. For safety reasons, we ask that those of you who wish to bring jogging strollers or walk start the race at the back of the pack.
The Superhero Fun Run for A Cure will proceed rain or shine. The average high for the day shows as 71 degrees and the average low is 48 degrees.
REGISTRATION
Each registration includes an event T-shirt, bib and chip timing (by Synergy Race Timing). At the end of the run, there will be basic refreshment, music, and medals. Virtual Runners receive a t-shirt and medal.
T-shirts are provided in both men and women’s styles. Adult and kid (not babies) sizes available. Our T-shirt provider, considers the shirts to be “slim fit” and told us that “so going up 1 size is usually a good bet especially if a runner enjoys a looser fit.” Sizing charts below. Exchanges limited to supply on hand.
(T-shirts for registrations after April 14, 2017 may not be available by event day and will be mailed to the address listed in the registration.)
For t-shirts sizing, please refer to the bottom of this page.
COURSE INFO
The Superhero Fun Run for a Cure course is a tour of Coyote Point Park. For all runs, the start is at the Duck Pond. The course then runs north to the water and then west.
After a small run, the course will then turn left to follow the park's perimeter and go around the Magic Mountain jungle gym. Here is where the run changes for the 5k/10 and 1 mile run. For the 1 mile run, the course will turn left near the Duck Pond to follow the road back to the Finish Line.
For the 5k/10k, superheroes will run along the golf course and head toward the Bay Trail, which goes all the way to Foster City. After a small distance on the Bay Trail, the run will then turn left and run along the bay to get awesome views of the water and the East Bay, and eventually run into the Marina and to the preserve area. After a small tour in the Marina it will be time to run back to the Duck Pond by taking the uphill trails past the Coyote Point Museum and memorials. After a slight downhill and run back along the water, the 5k runners will return to the Duck Pond for a super finish. 10k runners will hydrate and take the loop one more time before their super hero finish.

THE CAUSE
The Superhero Fun Run for a Cure was and continues to be organized to fundraise on behalf of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) fundraiser. LLS raises money to support blood cancer research. Since 1949, LLS has been dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. www.lls.org
The 2017 4th Annual Superhero Fun Run for a Cure proceeds will be donated to LLS through the organization’s Man and Woman of the Year fundraising campaign. Each year, in communities across the U.S. passionate candidates engage in an exciting competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) "Man & Woman of the Year" titles by raising funds for LLS blood cancer research. The candidates compete in honor of children who are local blood cancer survivors, the Boy & Girl of the Year. The 2017 fun run is supporting Sandra Vander Wal, a candidate for this year's Man and Woman of the Year for Silicon Valley & Monterey. Sandra has dedicated much of her time over the years to fundraise on behalf of LLS.
The proceeds from previous Superhero Fun Run for a Cure events were donated to LLS through LLS’ Man and Woman of the Year and LLS' Team in Training program. Team In Training (TNT) is the flagship fundraising program for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and the only endurance sports training program for charity that raises money for blood cancer research. TNT and LLS are changing the landscape of blood cancer, not someday but today, making TNT the perfect way to fundraise.
REFUND POLICY
Please note that the Superhero Fun Run for a Cure is a fundraising event. All entry fees are non-refundable and non-transferable. As mentioned, all proceeds will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
