Event Description

Join us August 12-20, 2023, for the JC Bike Week Challenge in Jackson County. The Challenge is simple. This is a bike-on-your-own challenge. From Saturday, August 12 to Sunday, August 20, an on-road bike course will be marked at the designated area.

CHALLENGE ROUTE: This year's path will start at the intersection of W Bauer Rd and N Brockway Rd in Black River Falls, near the entrance to Wazee Lake Recreation Area. You can park at the entrance to the Wazee service road, which is located at this intersection. Cyclists will head south on N Brockway Road, then take a LEFT at Castle Mound Road. Continue straight until the intersection of Castle Mound Road and Black Deer Rd. Then turnaround and return to the start by the same route. THE ROUTE WILL BE MARKED WITH ARROWS. This is a 9-mile out-and-back route.

For additional mileage, cyclists can continue past the starting point and head north about 2.5 miles until the intersection with Hwy 54, and then return to the start. Or cyclists can go west on W Bauer Rd and ride about 3 miles before heading back to the start. (These additional sections will not be marked with arrows.)

This is a PARTICIPATE AT YOUR OWN RISK event. While this road is considered bike-friendly, we cannot control for the actions of any drivers on the road. When biking on a shared road, it is important to ride with traffic on the right hand side of the road and to follow all traffic safety rules. Cyclists should always wear a helmet, be mindful of their surroundings, not veer in and out of the roadway, and pay extra attention for cars that may not be watching for you. Using a headlight and tail light are a great idea to add visibility, as well as wearing bright clothing.
