Guiding Light is proud to host the first annual Strides For Unity 5k located in Millennium Park. Our goal is simple. To bring community, organizations, and families together. Through triumph and tragedy, relationships are our greatest strength. A collection of organizations that work to empower and grow our community will be present before and after the race to connect and foster relationships. With opportunities to learn what resources and services they offer, as well as opportunities to take an active role in supporting our community. All proceeds go towards community resources and organizations that are creating growth in Kent County. Let’s remind everyone who is in Kent County. You are never alone.
Guiding Light was founded in 1929 and has grown into a robust recovery and reengagement community. Designed to help those living at society’s margins fulfill their God-given potential. The nonprofit has been building on a near century of compassion and has celebrated more than 90 years of serving Grand Rapids. Through its programs, Guiding Light works with men struggling with addiction and homelessness to return to society.
Event Information:
We are excited to welcome everyone to the first annual Strides for Unity 5k. If you are unable to make it but still want to participate in the fun and collect race day swag. Don't worry! Register for the Virtual run/walk option and choose any 3.1 mile stretch to rock out those miles.
Our race day coarse will take you on a 3.1 mile loop in and around Millennium Park. Beginning and ending at the Grant Pavilion where awards will presented after the race.
Family, Friends, and Dogs: Whether this be your first ever 5K or you are an experienced pro. We hope that you bring your family and friends to show support and enjoy themselves. Food and drinks will be provided! If your four legged friends want to check out what we are doing please bring them along! Just remember that dogs must be on a leash the entire time of the event. Runners/Walkers with dogs will also start the race after participants without dogs. Please be prepared to clean up after your dog as well.
Race Day Swag: Each runner/walker who registers by October 8th will receive a Guiding Light Strides For Unity 5k T-Shirt.
