Event Description

Join us on Veterans Day for the newest 5K in the state. All abilities are encouraged to be with us at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport.

You can run or walk in honor of our veterans and in support of our men and women who have served our country. 

From our founder, Priscilla Sanchez:

My father, Samuel Sanchez, passed away on Father’s Day, 6/19/22.

On 6/21, I wrote down "veteran’s organization, pick a run and volunteer." These words have inspired me to build on my father’s legacy. 

My father was a proud Marine, Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient. After coming home from Vietnam he devoted his time helping our veterans transition from serving our country and into society.

He became Coordinator of Veterans affairs where he counseled and advised Veterans of their benefits and opportunities. He also organized and participated in numerous events to help our Veterans. He proudly marched in countless parades, his last march on Memorial Day 2021.

Our event will benefit Homes for the Brave which supports our local Veterans as my father did. I am honored to partner with this organization to provide continued support for those heroes who have served our country! Scroll down to read more about Homes for the Brave and all they do for veterans!

                         Paid entries receive a commemorative SS shirt- size guaranteed till Oct.28

11/8    Fees increase $5 each

11/11  Event Day at Sherwood Island State Park

8:00 am Pre-reg pickup of bibs & swag, Late registration ONLINE ONLY- no cash/paper 

8:45 am FREE Kids 'Run for our Heroes' scamper 

9:00 am Introduction of guests, flag presentation, National Anthem 

9:15 am START 5k run/walk and 1.5 mi walk 

9:30 am Snacks & Fluids followed by awards distribution 

5K Awards- Overall  M&F champions, 1st place M & F veterans,

1st place in m & f age groups 9 & under, 10-13, 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+ (80+ will be added if pre-regd)

What is HOMES FOR THE BRAVE?
An Applied Behavioral Rehabilitation Institute, Inc.(ABRI), doing business as Homes for the Brave, is a 501(c)(3) not for profit with a mission of providing housing and services to individuals experiencing homelessness, especially Veterans. By operating one permanent and two transitional supportive housing programs in Bridgeport, Connecticut. ABRI aims to help individuals return to productive and meaningful lives. ABRI staff work with clients to create personalized goals to help them achieve stable income and housing and increase their self-determination
