Event Description

Run for a great cause at the 14th Annual Five Points of Life Race Weekend on February 16 & 17, 2019 in scenic Gainesville, Florida!

The marathon course is a Boston Marathon qualifier and USATF certified, and starts in front of the University of Florida Center for Performing Arts and weaves through Gainesville’s most popular running areas. The route takes you past the iconic 34th Street Wall where thousands of UF students and Gainesville residents have commemorated important events in their lives and in the community. You’ll be challenged by the historic hills of 16th Avenue, a popular training route of Frank Shorter who won the 1972 Olympic gold medal in the marathon, and will enjoy Gainesville’s beautiful Duck Pond and downtown areas.

The course will also take you through Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, home to the 1996, 2006 and 2008 National Football Championship Florida Gators, and past Lake Alice where you may see some real gators sunning themselves on the shores. After the split, marathoners will continue a route that leads runners through the revitalized Depot Park, out and back the Hawthorne Trail, with shaded segments, and finishing back through campus, running through the Swamp and around Lake Alice a second time before the finish. A festive post race party welcomes you to the finish line where you’ll enjoy pizza, refreshments, live entertainment and awards.

This year, we would like to introduce our new 5K/half marathon challenge! You now have the option to run both the 5K on Saturday, February 16 and the half marathon on Sunday, February 17. Along with the items you will receive from both the 5K and half marathon, each participant will receive an additional medal and giveaway item. Challenge participants will receive one chipped bib for both the 5K and half marathon.

All proceeds from the weekend benefit the Five Points of Life Foundation, who raises awareness for the five ways to share life through the donation of blood, apheresis, marrow, organ/tissue and cord blood.
