Event Description

The 35th annual Spirit Run will take place on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Fashion Island, Newport Beach. With 13 road racing events, a Family Mile, 5k Family Walk, and a Toddler Trot, Spirit Run has something for every age, from toddlers to grandparents.
 
Spirit Run allows you to double or triple your fun by offering you the opportunity to race multiple races and to be eligible to win medals and prizes in each one.
 
In 2018, Spirit Run is proud to be partnering with USATF Southern California (So Cal USATF) to present So Cal USATF's 2018 Road Mile and 10k Championships. Races included in the Road Mile Championship include Elite, Open, and Youth Mile.
 
For the sixth consecutive year, So Cal USATF has also selected Spirit Run to be included in its Grand Prix Championship Series. 
 
Spirit Run also gives adults the choice of whether to buy an event t-shirt. They may choose to purchase a Spirit Run long sleeve tech shirt for $10. The youth registrant fee entitles the registrant to a free youth sized cotton Spirit Run shirt with an option to upgrade to a long sleeve adult tech shirt for $10. 
 
In between the walking and racing events, participants and spectators enjoy a Youth & Fitness Expo with a delicious pancake breakfast, other food and beverages, live music, massage and shopping for adults, youth activities, health and fitness information, and a Dog Expo.
 
The net proceeds of this long standing community event benefit education and athletics in the Newport - Mesa Unified School District.

6:30 am - 10k

7:30 am - Youth 5k (high school and younger)

8:10 am - Open Mile (age 13 & older)

8:20 am - Elite Mile

8:25 am - Dog Mile

8:35 am - Adult 5k

8:37 am - Adult 5k Family Walk

9:30 am - Family Mile

9:40 am - 11-12 Year Old Mile

9:50 am - 9-10 Year Old Mile

10:00 am - 7-8 Year Old Mile

10:10 am - 5-6 Year Old 1/2 Mile

10:15 am - 4 Year Old 1/4 Mile

10:00 - 10:45 am - Toddler Trot, multiple start times

Course Information

All races start and finish very close to the parking lot adjacent to the Regal Cinemas. The 5k and 10k courses take place primarily on Newport Center Drive. The Elite, Open, and Dog Mile travel a point to point course on Newport Center Drive that begins with a slight incline with the majority an easy decline to a flat finish. The Family Mile and Youth 1/4 to 1 mile races are out and back courses on Newport Center Drive. Visit the Course Maps page under Participant Information at nmspiritrun.org for course maps.

All races start and finish near the Regal Cinemas at Fashion Island located at:

To avoid road closures, please follow arrival directions carefully. Due to event day road closures access the Fashion Island area via San Miguel from MacArthur or Avocado from PCH. Eastbound San Joaquin Hills Road, Newport Center Drive at PCH, and around Fashion Island will be closed.

From Coast Highway – take Avocado Dr. north to parking lots adjacent to Edwards Newport Theatre at Civic Center (formerly Farallon)  and San Miguel.

From the 405 Freeway – exit MacArthur Blvd., head southwest.  Turn right on San Miguel Dr. follow signs to parking.

Arrive one hour before the start of the event to allow time for parking, packet pick-up and warm-up on race day.

Parking

Parking is available next to Regal (Edwards Big 6) Cinemas at Avocado Dr., Civic Center (formerly Farallon). and also San Miguel.  Follow signs and directions of volunteers.

Medals and Awards

Each child who finishes a youth race will receive a finisher's medal. Winners medals and prizes will be awarded as described at nmspiritrun.org.
