Event Description
The Support Oakdale Schools (SOS) Board is a group of eager and committed citizens of Oakdale that has a desire to create a fun community event that encourages family participation in an activity that inspires fitness, healthy choices, and at the same time generates revenue for Oakdale schools.
The SOS founders brainstormed this event on their way home from the 2009 Wharf to Wharf 10K footrace in Santa Cruz. They rallied a team together and created the SOS 1-mile and 5K footrace through the streets of Oakdale.
Since the SOS debuted in March 2010, the SOS race has increasingly attracted approximately 500 participants per event. The core makeup of SOS race participants are families running the race together.
The annual SOS event has raised more than $110,000 over the last eight years that are granted to the schools by our affiliate, Oakdale Educational Foundation (OEF).
It is fair to say that the founders of the SOS have accomplished their goal, and the good thing is that this event repeats itself year after year.
We seek event sponsors and financial support for student race fees year-round, but we also hope to get more and more community members to be race participants. Put your training shoes on and get ready to join us at our next race! For Kids’ Sake, Run!!
