What I love about this race:

The beautiful orchards we bike through on a relatively flat course; the friendly spectator area, including a kids playground, bounce houses, and vendors; an awesome timing chip GPS tracker so loved ones can track their athletes’ progress on their smartphones; and an easy and fun swim! The perfect triathlon for newbies or those looking for a fun, fast, and beautiful sprint triathlon!

Swim

The 8 a.m. start will begin at the Payson City Pool (655 S Main St) where participants will line up in order from fastest to slowest swim times. Every five seconds a new swimmer will enter the pool to begin. The timing chip system will ensure accurate times of each leg of the race as well as the two transitions, from the first swimmer to the last. Swimmers will “snake” up and back in each lane, staying to the LEFT side of the lane, and then under the lane line to repeat until they exit the pool after swimming in all six lanes, equaling 300 yards.

T1

Swimmers will exit the pool area and run barefooted (or may set out shoes just outside of the pool area) on the cement sidewalk and grass to the far end of the transition area (on the Main Street side, the entrance for both swimming and biking).

BIKE

Racers will leave the transition area on foot, mount their bicycles in the proper area, and continue along an 11-mile route. Cycling through blooming cherry orchards and beautiful farms and is what makes this relatively flat ride worth trying. Coming up over the freeway overpass and back into downtown Payson racers will have unobstructed views of the Payson LDS temple, as well as miles and miles of south Utah County.

T2

Dismounting your bike on Center Street, participants will walk into the transition area to prepare for the last leg of the race, the run.

RUN

Heading north down the hill, racers will go to the end of the road that ends at Memorial Park, turn right, and then head up toward the canyon on Peteetneet Road (600 E). Turning just before the mouth of the canyon onto Canyon Road, racers will travel through some beautiful Payson neighborhoods, and will be able to hear the music and screaming fans at the finish line as they turn back onto Main Street.

FINISH LINE/SPECTATOR AREA

While you’re exhausting yourself out on the course, your family and friends can enjoy a fun spectator area filled with vendors, kid’s activities, and music.
