Event Description

The 48th annual Adirondack Health Lake Placid Classic Half Marathon and 10K will be held on October 06, 2018.  Starting in the Village of Lake Placid, on the famous Olympic Speed Skating oval, this family friendly event welcomes runners of all abilities. Both races run through the main village of Lake Placid, around Mirror Lake, then exit the village limits into the town of North Elba. Running past the historic Ski Jumping complex, the participants entertain a few hills, then run out and back along the banks of the beautiful Au Sable River. The final push allows runners to enjoy a true Adirondack hill, (but it is a short 3/10th of a mile hill), and then finish at the Lake Placid Horse Show Grounds in the shadows of the Ski Jumping complex and several mountain ranges. The event continues to grow in both participation and popularity, revitalizing the event as a fall tradition in Lake Placid. The Lake Placid Classic maintains the objective of supporting our local youth, businesses and the health of our community. The majority of the proceeds are donated directly to local youth organizations and community efforts. Register early on Active.com, for early registration prices.  On-site registration will be October 5th at the Mirror Lake Beach House (35 Parkside Drive) from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm. On-site registration rates are 10K - $60; Half Marathon - $85.

Visit, www.LakePlacidClassic.com for more information for this year’s event. Come out and cheer on the runners and walkers on Saturday, October 06, 2018. Both races get underway at 8:00 am in front of the Olympic Oval and finish at the North Elba Horse Show Grounds.

Event details and schedule

T-Shirts.

If you would like to trade your shirt for a different size, please bring your unworn shirt to the information booth FOLLOWING Saturday’s event.  We are usually very limited on the number of extra shirts we have, but sometimes you can get lucky and get the size you would prefer.

The Course.

Please be aware that the Half Marathon & 10K Race course is run on Village, Town and State highways. We do our best at closing certain roads and controlling vehicle traffic, however for much of the race, this is not possible and roadways are open to traffic. Runners are advised to stay left (facing oncoming traffic) in each direction along Route 73 and River Road sections of the course.

THE START:

The Half Marathon & 10 K both begin at 8:00 a.m. at the Olympic Skating Oval on Main Street. The race course will officially close at 12:30 p.m. and any remaining runners may finish, however, their time will not be part of the finisher’s results.

WALKERS.

We have been asked by the local law enforcement to begin those Walkers who will exceed 16 minute miles (a 4 hour Half Marathon or 2 hour 10K) at . Traffic control will be sparse, but present, so extra caution needs to be taken for until the official start at 8:00. Walkers will be asked to begin their journey on the sidewalks.
