Event Description

The Children’s Home of Jefferson County announces registration is open for its 2018 Henderson Harbor Triathlon. The event, now in its 26th year, is scheduled for Saturday, July 7, 2018, at the Henderson Harbor Boat Launch, State Route 178, Henderson Harbor, New York. Last year’s event was cancelled due to unsafe conditions related to high water levels along the Lake Ontario shoreline, and Henderson Harbor Boat Launch flooding.

Participants may register online for this year’s event at www.active.com, www.hendersonharbortriathlon.com, or www. nnychildrenshome.com.

Complete information regarding the Triathlon can be found at www.hendersonharbortriathlon.com. The website offers information on the event including registration links, race course map, schedule, rules, course distances, and driving directions. Information on beautiful Henderson Harbor’s local attractions and accommodations can also be found on the site.

This year’s event features a Sprint Triathlon including a .750K swim, 20K bike, and 5K run. Participants have the option of competing as an Iron Person or as part of a team with up to three competitors. Competitive race categories include Iron Man, Iron Woman, and Team, with several age brackets in each category.

If received on or before June 1, 2018, registration fees are $50.00 for an Iron Person and $80.00 for a team. After June 1st, fees are $75.00 for an Iron Person and $130.00 for a team. Fees include race registration, a post-race cookout and the awards ceremony. Anyone registered by June 1, 2018 is guaranteed a race T-shirt. If registered before June 1, Team prices include a race shirt for each team member.

Participants must be at least 12 years of age. Any participant under 18 years of age must have a parent or legal guardian sign a 2018 Henderson Harbor Triathlon Waiver Form the day of the event during race day registration.

Event proceeds benefit the Children’s Home of Jefferson County’s Community Based Programs. The Boys & Girls Club SoZo Teen Center, one of CHJC’s Community Based Programs, is an adult supervised drop-in center located in the Marcy Building, just off Public Square at 171 Polk Street, Watertown. It provides local teens a place to safely engage with their peers while enjoying activities like pool, video games, computer access, and movie nights. Youth also have the opportunity to receive help with homework, tutoring, and job skills training. More than 300 teens are registered at the Center with nearly 30 teens attending every day. All Center programs stress character building, leadership, and life skills. The Boys & Girls Club SoZo Teen Center is open Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 8:30 pm and till 9:00 pm on Fridays.

The Triathlon would not be possible without the continued support of the Henderson Town Board, and the Henderson Fire, Rescue, Highway and Recreation Departments. The event’s success is also dependent upon the cooperation of the Henderson Men’s Club, the Henderson Fish and Game Club, the Henderson Harbor Yacht Club, the Association Island RV Park, and local residents. Special thanks are extended to the many dedicated volunteers who help keep everyone safe and the event running smoothly.
