Event Description

A mile race on the route of the Longview, Washington Go 4th Festival's July 4th parade, this is the first ever "road mile" in Southwest Washington. It starts at Happy Kids Dentistry near the historic Monticello Hotel and finishes near Martin's Dock at beautiful Lake Sacajawea Park. Hosted by the Cowlitz Valley Runners, in partnership with Cowlitz on the Move and the Longview Parks & Recreation Department, and sponsored by Happy Kids Dentistry & Orthodontics and the Child & Adolescent Clinic, this is a fun event for the whole family. Hundreds of fans (lined up to watch the parade that will follow the race) will cheer the runners and walkers as they run this fast, flat, scenic course. The focus is on family fun, so the entry fee is minimal and only the first 25 times will be recorded - with awards for the top 3 male and female runners. But for those who are competitive, lace up your fastest racing flats because we do expect a few local high school phenoms and a couple collegiate athletes including, perhaps, a national champion miler! In keeping with the community, non-profit volunteer philosophy of the Go 4th Festival, the Cowlitz Valley Runners will apply all proceeds to scholarships for high school seniors pursuing higher education.

Awards: The top male and female finishers will win a certificate for a salmon dinner donated by the Kelso-Longview Kiwanis Club. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers, and to the first male and female finishers over 50 and under 13 years of age.
