Event Description
Also known as the W4, the Wimberley 4 is comprised of a 4 Mile Run and a 3K FItness Walk. After a couple of years off, this Hill Country favorite is back for its 6th running! You are going to love this race route set up as a 'loop' a course and a grand finish is inside Texan Stadium at Wimberley High School. If you've been to Wimberley you know its charm. If not, now you have a great, multi-purpose reason to visit! The Wimberley 4 has been referred to as 'the best BIG, little town run in Texas'.
Starting from Wimberley High School the 4 Mile route runs run into the Village of Wimberley and then turns onto River Road to parallel the beautiful Blanco River for a scenic and serene stretch of the course. Then it's a turn back north again along a beautiful, peaceful country road as you head back for your 'victory lap' inside Texan Stadium! It all adds up to a great race route with beautiful and scenic stretches of country road in this hidden, Hill Country gem of a town. Then kick back on the stadium's field with post event food and refreshments while you cheer on other runners, take in the live music, visit with vendors on the field and enjoy the awards. The 4 Mile run is chip timed and will provide overall and age group awards (5 year age increments). There's also a shorter 3K Fitness Walk (non-timed) for those who want to share in the fun and experience the finish in Texan Stadium. There will be plenty of volunteers all along the route to help keep you motivated, hydrated and entertained on your W4 journey to the finish line!
If you're from out of town, consider making it a day to enjoy some shopping or local art in the "Square' after your run. Visit some of the local brew pubs or wineries in the area, take a plunge into Wimberley's renowned Blue Hole for a quick cool off swim and even maybe stay the night in one of the many great area lodges or BnB's that are so much a part of Wimberley's special ambiance. Partial proceeds from the event will go to help benefit the Wimberley High School Swim Team and Cross Country Team.
The W4 event is managed by Make a Difference Events (who's office is in Wimberley) and are the same folks who created and produce the Alamo Run Fest event in San Antonio, one of the City's largest running events that finishes inside the Alamodome (www.AlamoRunFest.com). The difference here is this is Wimberley, a wonderful small town with a big Texas heart and 'home grown' charm that you'll experience in the WImberley 4!
