Event Description

People living with epilepsy, their caregivers and friends, along with professionals in the field of neurology are encouraged to attend this all day seminar focusing on the latest treatments and trends in epilepsy. A variety of sessions will be offered by leading professionals in the field, this conference you don't want to miss!

The conference will take place at the Bing Cancer Center at the OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital located at 500 Thomas Lane, Columbus, Ohio 43214. The Bing Cancer Center is connected to the purple garage which offers complimentary parking.

Registration is $10 for the conference only or $40 for the conference and CEU's. The conference includes seminars, continental breakfast, and lunch. If you are unable to pay the registration fee, please call 614-725-1031. Online registration ends 10/25/18 at 12pm. If you would like to register after online registration ends, please contact Karen Brown at 614-725-1031. Registration will be available at the door as space allows. Please notify us of any dietary restrictions or if you have any special needs (interpreter services).

  • Dr. Brien J Smith, MD, MBA; System VP Neuroscience Services OhioHealth - This presentation will provide a brief overview of significant personal and professional experiences in the field of epilepsy over the last 40 years.

  • "Transition from Pediatric to Adult Care: Making the Process Painless" Dr. Jaime Twanow, MD.; Nationwide Children's Hospital - This presentation will outline the framework for successful transition from pediatric to adult neurology providers.
  • "Epilepsy, Treating Beyond Seizures" Dr. Emily Klatte, MD; OhioHealth - An overview of co-morbidities, including depression, memory issues, headaches and bone health.
  • "Epilepsy Surgery - the Patient Journey" Dr. Girish Hiremath, MD, FAANS - This presentation will talk about epilepsy surgery, its indications, techniques, and expectations, and the results thus far at Riverside since the start of the program 2.5 years ago.

  • "Managing Women with Epilepsy" Dr. Sarita Maturu, DO; The Ohio State University Medical Center - This presentation will cover contraception methods prior to getting pregnant as well as what special considerations need to be taken after getting pregnant.
  • "Pediatric Epilepsy, Development, and Behavior" Dr. Mary Wojnaroski, PhD; Nationwide Children's Hospital - In this presentation we will talk about typical child development, developmental delays and behavior problems in children with epilepsy and strategies to promote development and manage behavior problems.
  • "Seizure Types: What's in a Name?" Dr. Monica Islam, MD; Nationwide Children's Hospital - This presentation will discuss the classification of seizure types and types of epilepsy.

1:15 PM - 2:30 PM General Session: "The Impact of Epilepsy on Memory Function"
  • Dr. Julie Simensky, PhD-Clincial Psychology, MA-Rehabilitation Counseling; OhioHealth - This presentation will provide an overview of memory functioning and how it can be negatively impacted by epilepsy. Additionally, strategies to improve memory functioning will be reviewed.
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM General Session: "Questions I Forgot to Ask"
  • Dr. Sheri Cotterman Hart; Mt. Carmel Neurology
