Event Description

On Saturday, March 30, 2019, the Council on Aging’s Annual March for Meals will return to the Great
Lakes Mall at 7850 Mentor Avenue in Mentor. The event for Lake County is one of hundreds of local
programs across the country that will reach out to their communities to build the support for Meals on
Wheels.
The annual March for Meals commemorates the historic day in March 1972 when President Richard
Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a
national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. Since 2002, Meals On Wheels programs from
across the country have joined forces for the annual awareness campaign to celebrate this successful
public-private partnership and garner the support needed to fill the gap between the seniors served and
those still in need.
Through this program, hundreds of seniors in Lake County who live alone and are in need of food
receive nutritional meals delivered right to their homes.
