Event Description

The 4th annual MFI Race the Runway 5K and 1 Mile takes place on the runway of the Treasure Coast International Airport. It starts at the Missionary Flights International hangar in a loop series that finishes at the hangar. Upon the course finish, runners will be presented with a completing medal and special awards given to those who complete the race in overall first, second, and third. The event includes breakfast refreshment items for runners and coffee. This race serves as a fundraising event for Missionary Flights as they seek to serve affiliated missions in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas.
 
Race the Runway preceeds MFI Family Day, an annual event which saw over 2,000 participants in 2018. Participants in the race will be among the first to sign up for Family Day events, including a ride aboard an MFI DC-3 along the Treasure Coast.

 

Event details and schedule

The 5K Race will be begin at 6:30 a.m. Runners in this event are encouraged to try to finish within an hour (a standard walking pace). The 1 Mile Run/Walk is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. By 8:00 a.m. children ages 4-9 will be given special opportunities to compete. Children that compete in our age bracket kid events will be receive a t-shirt and presented a certificate by an MFI Pilot. The medal and award ceremony for 5K & 1 Mile participants will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Participants who sign up to run in the 5K are automatically given the opportunity to participate in the 1 Mile run. Participants who sign up for the 1 Mile Run/Walk will be permitted to participate in that event only.

Children under 18 years old must have parental consent in order to participate in any race activity. If a child is signed up for the 5K race, they will be required to complete the course within an hour. Children competing in the 1 Mile must complete the course within 30 minutes.

It is suggested that 5K participants arrive to the MFI Hangar no later than 6:00 a.m. to ensure that all information is correct. Race packets may be picked up in advance within 3 days of the Race by contacting the MFI Office to schedule early pickup. Same day Race packet pick up and registration will open at 5:30 a.m. 1 Mile Race participants should plan to arrive at the MFI hangar by 7:00 a.m.

Size specific Race T-Shirts will be provided to all participants that sign up by February 21. After that time, t-shirt sizes will be available on a first to sign up basis.

Please be aware that you will be running at an airport. For security reasons, you will not be permitted to have alcohol, weapons, or wander outside of designated areas. Any of these actions will remove you from the race premisis without a refund and likely result in a fine or arrest. Please understand that necessary precautions and searches may be performed for your safety and the safetly of others.
