Event Description

Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Phi Kappa Psi of Case Western Reserve University are hosting the Sprint into Spring 5K Run/ Walk on Sunday March 31st, 2019. The run will begin at Noon and features many University Circle landmarks including Wade Oval, Severance Hall, and the CWRU campus!* The 5K is only $25 for ages 19+, and $20 for ages 18 and under (discount applied at checkout).

What is this 5K raising money for? Both Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Phi Kappa Psi have charities that we continuously raise funds for. Sigma Alpha Epsilon will be donating proceeds from the event to alumni Ash Mohammad who is going through his third fight with cancer, and Phi Kappa Psi will be donating proceeds to Tomorrow’s Stars.

Ash Mohammad, an alumnus of the CWRU’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter, learned in October of 2018 that he had a second relapse of cancer. Ash will be undergoing GDP chemotherapy, and it will last for two to three months depending on his progress. Afterward, he will be hospitalized for 6-10 days of salvage chemotherapy and an allogeneic transplant. SAE’s portion of the proceeds will be donated to the family’s donation drive.

Tomorrow's Stars is 501(c) 3 organization that aims to transform children’s lives in Elmina, Ghana by providing them education opportunities. They do this by tearing down barriers that would typically making learning difficult such as providing libraries, computer labs, scholarships, and teacher trainings. In addition, once these children have gone through a proper education system, they “Pay it Forward,” by teaching the younger children. Attached are a few photos of the work done in Ghana.

On behalf of our fraternities, we really hope that you can make it out to the Sprint into Spring 5K Run/ Walk. Even if you cannot attend, a donation to our charities would be greatly appreciated. The link to our contribution page is: www.gofundme.com/sprint-into-spring-5k-runwalk.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to Andrew Engelmeyer, aje51@case.edu, and Niko Kamlet, nsk62@case.edu.

*This is not a chip-timed race, although we will have volunteers at the end of the run to tell people their time if desired.
