Event Description
Join us at the NYARA Trail Series Shepaug Run-Raiser in lovely Bridgewater, CT on March 23rd, 2019!
What: Shepaug Run-raiser 10k, 20k, 30k+ trail race
Date: Saturday March 23rd
Where: Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department, 100 Main Street South, Bridgewater, CT 06752
When: Registration opens at 6:45 am. All races start at 8:00am. Course closes at 3:00pm
Event Info: There are three distances to choose from:
10K Course: 6.3 miles with 634’ of gentle elevation gain. This is the same course we have been running for years. History tells us it will be one or more of the following: frozen, snowy, muddy, or dry. Just kidding, it won’t be dry. The course offers a good mix of fields, trails, contouring, and hopefully a taste of what adventure racing is like.
The course starts over grass, gravel, and a paved walking path before diving into the woods. The woods offer contouring, established trails, and deer trails all with their own set of challenges. The few fields are a welcome reprieve from technical woods but can turn into a squishy slog under the right circumstances. The course is marked ad nauseam so you can keep on truckin’. There are NO Aid Stations on course so come equipped with water and/or food. There will be both at the Start/Finnish area.
20K Course: (Read 10k above.) Two laps on the 10k course. The Start/Finish area will act as the Aid Station. We will provide the normal(ish) race food of sweet, salty, and electrolity (totally a real word). Runners are welcome to leave a bag on the band stand or use their vehicles as a staging area.
30k+ Runners: (Read 10k and 20k above.) There are two categories here. Winners will be crowned at the 30k distance and at an overall distance (not mutually exclusive). Most runners will be mentally and physically exhausted after 3 laps but I am not going to stand in the way of anyone’s fun. The course closes at 3:00pm but the race director has sole executive power to extend this time.
All race lengths will depart at the same time. Fast Track Timing will be handling the timing logistics. The course will be marked with over 100 signs, arrows, stakes, and anything else blue we can find. The trail map is to give an overall feel of where the course goes and is purposely non-descript. Course changes may be made without notification but will not affect the overall distance or feel of the race.
Event details and schedule
Important to Know: This race (Steep Rock too), were started to raise money for Shepaug Baseball and Softball (shepaugbaseballsoftball.com). This program benefits the youth in the three towns of Bridgewater, Roxbury, and Washington. The Bridgewater Volunteer Fire Department has been our gracious host from the beginning. Please respect the grounds and bathrooms while you are here. They do not accept donations from this race and help clean when everyone leaves. Please be as appreciative as we are.

Refunds: No refunds. No Rain date.
Parking: There will be parking at the fire house along the access road going from the main parking to the barn. For those running the longer race, please show up early to get a spot closer to the bandstand (north end of the grounds). A quick Google Earth pic of 100 Main Street South of Bridgewater CT will help. We try to keep the south side of the parking lot free for Fire/EMS personnel. Parking may change due to weather conditions but will still be on-site.
