Event Description

Why we run 6k? 6k is the average distance that women in Africa walk each day to collect water that is often dirty. We're going the distance so they don't have to.

On June 1, the Boston community will join communities across the country and walk 6k to raise funds for COME UNITY's basic needs, education and sustainability initiatives in East Africa. In 2019 COME UNITY hopes to:

  • Bring clean water to the Oloomunyi community whose residents currently walk 10 miles each way for dirty water
  • Organize a three-day Girls Empowerment Conference for the girls in our Kenya Education Sponsorship Program to encourage, empower and equip them to be agents of change in their communities.
  • Build two greenhouses for the Inkuseron community which will employ over 30 women year round and several more during harvest.

Here's how it works:

  1. Register online. Once you have registered, find the fundraising link on the left to create a personal fundraising page. Then, share the page via social media to raise money. As an added bonus, once you have raised the cost of your initial race payment (minus credit card fees), your race fee will be refunded. Kids 10 and under: use coupon code 10ANDUNDER to reduce your race cost to $25.
  2. Before the race you will receive your race t-shirt by mail (If you register by April 30th)
  3. Wear your t-shirt and join the Boston community on Saturday, June 1 to walk, run, stroll or bike to impact lives in East Africa!
  4. Take a photo and post it with the hashtag #comeunity6k. Tag us and we'll share your photo to show your unity with our teams across the country.
