Event Description

10th Annual Spokenya Race! The 7k distance of this race is a representation of the average distance that people in Kenya must walk to find clean water. Therefore, 100% of your race entry fee goes directly to clean water projects in Kenya.

Spokenya lets runners choose to carry water on their heads – Kenyan style. Finish the race with a bucket of water on top of your head. This is how women and girls in Kenya must transport all of the family's water. It’s a challenge for sure.

This year, race proceeds will build a clean water catchment system on an elementary school in the rural region where we work. In this area, most schools do not have a source of clean drinking water for their students. These rain catchment systems provide year-round safe, clean water if collection is done properly and tanks are kept sanitary.  The cost of rain catchment is a fraction of the cost of drilling a well at each school. Providing rain catchment systems are a sustainable solution that will last for many years and can be owned and maintained by the community.

Thank you for being a part of our vision!
