Event Description

We are inspiring and gathering people together to make them run New York marathon 2019!

Last Sunday, Irene, Raymond (Irene’s brother) and I ran over the Brooklyn Bridge up the West Side Highway to the George Washington Bridge and back down to 72nd Street as part of our 20-mile training run.

Team for Kids organizes all these training runs as a benefit for joining them to Give Kids a Running Start to a Healthier Lifestyle. Many of today’s children are obese, which can lead to Diabetes. We are so happy that we can participate in the marathon on their behalf. There dedication to children is incredible, and I thank them for my narrative essay topics and for all their support.

A little more than 17 years ago, Irene and I walked over the Brooklyn Bridge on one of our first dates. We had dinner at a little Italian Restaurant named something with Amici in the name and capped the night off enjoying some music at CBGB’s with my best buddy drumming away for his then band.

After the Brooklyn Bridge, we were somewhere near Battery Park, and I pointed over to the empty airspace over the World Trade Center and said, “That was where I proposed to you.” I wonder if the Freedom Towers will have a restaurant at the top? After that, I was quiet for a little bit, thinking about what happened a few years ago.

If you did not know, all along the Westside of Manhattan, there’s a run, bike and skate path. There are plenty boats floating in the Hudson River and kept me occupied as the George Washington Bridge grew a little bigger as we got closer. Right after passing the Intrepid Air & Space Museum, you can see the Bridge in the distance. So for the next hour, Irene kept asking, “How far is it?” and I just replied, “The bridge is getting closer!” Meanwhile it was at least 5-6 miles away.

Finally, after 15 miles we made it to the Bridge. Now 5 more miles until we are done!

Back down the same path, making sure that we do not make some wrong turns like we did when we ran up. We were greeted by the TFK coaches and Raymond, who stuck around to make sure everyone finished. We all cheered on 3 more runners to the finish line. Only 6 miles more for a complete marathon!

A little stretch with Coach Sid, which was really tough. Finally some breakfast and a nap on the train home.
