10k & 5k Hero Run to raise funds to fight childhood cancer. These kids affected by this awful disease are HEROES!!!
Our charity partner for this run is Sammy's Superheroes. Finding a cure to childhood cancer is the end game for Sammy's Superheroes Foundation. Sammy's Superheroes Foundation's mission is to raise funds for critical, life-saving research that will lead to modern treatments for all types of childhood cancer. Nebraska ranks 3rd in the number childhood cancer incidences in the country, which is why its Sammy's mission is so important. In 2017 Sammy's Superheroes Foundation has pledged $400,000 over four years to the Pediatric Cancer Data Commons. This project will dramatically change the way that research is conducted which will lead to more effective treatments for all those little fighters.
**The average age of children diagnosed is six. More than 40,000 children undergo treatment for cancer each year. 60% of children who survive cancer suffer late-effects, such as infertility, heart failure and secondary cancers. There are approximately 375,000 adult survivors of children's cancer in the United States.
