Event Description

Join us on Saturday, July 27 to raise money for the fight against cancer and for the Steve Briegel Scholarship. 

Now in it's 45th year, Steve's Run is a road and trail race held on the campus of Southwestern Michigan College. 

The race is named in honor of Steven Briegel, the son of former SMC president David Briegel. Steve died in 1990 at the age of 22 after a 5 1/2-year battle with cancer. He was a 1986 graduate of Dowagiac Union High School and had played basketball, golf and in the band for the Chieftains. He graduated with honors from SMC and was a junior in the Ferris at SMC program at the time of his death. 

The 10K course will consist of running through the golf course, cemetery and college campus on paved roads and wooded trails. The 5K Run/Walk will consist of running or walking through the college campus on wooded trails and paved roads. The Fun Run route will be entirely on paved roads. All events begin and end in front of the building named after Steve's father, the David C. Briegel Building.

Both 10K and 5K courses have been certified by USA Track and Field.

Race Day Registration/Packet Pickup

·         Location: Zollar Building/Student Activity Center (SAC)

·         Friday, July 26, 2019, 5-6:30 p.m. and race day 7-8:30 a.m.

Awards Ceremony

• Commences at 10:00 a.m. at the SMC Alumni Plaza located near the start line.
• Awards will be provided to the overall male and female winners of the 10K Run and 5K Run.
• The top 10K Run and 5K Run male and female winners from their age group will also be recognized.
• There are 16 age groups for male and female beginning with the age group of 10 and under through 80 and above.

Family Fun

• There will be many fun activities for the kids to take part in such as an inflatable bouncy house, face painting, balloon animals, etc. 
• The kids activities will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 11:30 a.m.
