Event Description

As of 2018 both our 5K and 10K routes are USATF certified as well as qualifiers for the AJC Peachtree Road Race. We use the MyLaps timing system.

The Run Above the Clouds 5K and 10K races have been reported to be the highest held in Georgia.  The races are over a beautifully scenic but challenging out and back course through the north Georgia mountains.  Instead of traffic, sidewalks and curbs, you are battling mountains and elevation. It’s a bear of a course and occasionally a shy bear is spotted along the route.  Those charismatic shy bears are featured each year on the event t-shirts.  The profile of the race is also the mountains on the shirts.

For those who desire to just enjoy the fresh mountain air and fall colors there is a 1 mile Fun Run & Dog Jog over a mostly flat course. Baby strollers, as well as well-behaved, vaccinated dogs on leash are welcome (one dog per participant). Dog owners are responsible for their pet waste,

The race is held in conjunction with the Indian Summer Festival held at the Woody Gap School.  If you would like to check out the race and lovely mountain and lake views around Suches, as well as our race profile map, visit www. runabovetheclouds.org.

The proceeds from Run Above the Clouds are used to furnish college and technical school scholarships for graduates of our K-12 Woody Gap School, the last K-12 public school in Georgia. The Run Above the Clouds is a 501c3 nonprofit organization.
