Event Description

Prairie Pedal is an annual fall fundraising event for the Macon County Conservation Foundation.  All proceeds support the conservation of natural areas and wildlife in Macon County, Illinois. 

Enjoy a 20 mile, 40 mile, or 62 mile ride through Macon County's quiet countryside and have a chance to discover the vibrant prairie grasses, wildflowers, and diverse wildlife as we ride for habitat restoration! 

After the ride, enjoy a delicious chili lunch (with vegetarian option) and an assortment of refreshments.  All routes begin and end at Rock Springs Conservation Area, 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur, IL.

There are several ways you may register for this event:

1. Register here through Active.com

2. Print out a Registration Form from our website, and return it to 3939 Nearing Lane, Decatur, IL 62521.

3. Register in person inside Rock Springs Nature Center during business hours: M-F, 8am-5pm.

4. Or register in person on the day of the event. 

Because this event requires signing a waiver, you may ONLY register yourself on Active.com.  You may not register individuals other than yourself.  You may not register yourself more than once.  If you have a friend who would like to attend, they must register themselves.

When asked to provide the name and phone number of an Emergency Contact, you may not list yourself.

Only adults ages 18+ may register online through Active.com.  If you are a parent or guardian registering someone under the age of 18, you must print out a registration form from our website, register them in person at Rock Springs Nature Center, or register them in person the morning of the event.

Event details and schedule

Event Start Times:
7am – 9am for the 40 and 62 mile rides
7am – 10am for the 20 mile ride

Lunch begins at 10:30am and ends at 2pm. Riders must complete their routes by 1pm.

All riders must wear a bicycle helmet and parental supervision is required for children under age 18.  The ride takes place on public roads where other motorists are present.

Your Prairie Pedal participation fee includes a t-shirt, at least one well stocked rest stop along each route, and a delicious lunch.  Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles will be available to help riders in need of assistance. Priority will be given to riders in emergency situations due to illness, injury, or irreparable breakdowns.
