Event Description

5K Run: The 5k run is open to all ages and abilities and will be professionally chip timed by Riverside Runners. The race will start at 9:00 a.m. at the parking area of Percival's Island Trail in downtown Lynchburg. We encourage participants to line up according to their pace (look for signs at the start) to help alleviate start line congestion. The course is flat and fast as you go out and back along the paved, shady trail. Get ready to set a speed record superheroes!

5K Walk: The 5k walk starts 5 minutes later than the 5K run. The 5k walk will also be professionally chip timed but is non-competitive (no age group or overall awards issued). If you sign up for the 5K run but start with the 5k walk participants, you may not receive your finish time. Please ensure you start in the correct corral.

Children's 1 Mile Fun Run: The 1 mile children's fun run is open to children 12 and under only. ONE parent per child may run with their small children. Parents do not have to pay or register (fun run only). Parents will receive a numbered bracelet which is their “ticket” to run with their child and/or pick up their child at the finish line parent/child meet-up corral. There will be 2 heats (races) beginning at 10:45am and 11:15am. The start location for all heats will be the parking area of Percival's Island Trail in downtown Lynchburg. Superheroes will chase the villains to the half-way point, refuel, and run back to headquarters. This fun run will not be timed and all kids will receive a collectable finisher's medal. Be sure to stay for the post-race kids dance party!

Parking: Parking information will be available in your race guide at packet pickup and online the week before the race. We are working at the speed of light to provide free shuttle service again to a downtown parking garage. Stay tuned!

Costumes: What fun is a Superhero Run without costumes? We encourage everyone to wear their favorite superhero costume (buy it or make it) but it is certainly not required. Which superhero will you be? When selecting your costume, please be reminded that children of all ages will be participating in this family friendly event (costumes should not be too revealing or scary please).

Costume Contest: Local celebrity judges will be at the costume contest booth ready to vote for their favorite superhero costumes in these categories: Best Traditional Superhero (man), Best Traditional Superhero (woman), Best Invented Superhero (man), Best Invented Superhero (woman), Best Traditional Super Kid (boy), Best Traditional Super Kid (girl), Best Invented Super Kid (boy), Best Invented Super Kid (girl), Best Super Baby, and Best Super Team/Group. Traditional means a typical, well-known superhero like Captain America or Wonder Woman. Invented means something you create like “Super Mom” or “Super Dad”. Let the judge know which category you want to enter. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony immediately following the 5k so any children that want to participate should get there well before the fun run heats.

Second place will win 4 season passes to Kings Dominion. Third place will win a local “staycation” prize package. If you raise $100, you will get a special super fundraiser medal during the awards ceremony. If you raise $250, you get a medal and a superhero run blanket. Packet Pick-up: Packet Pick-up will be Friday, November 1 from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm at Riverside Runners. We highly encourage you to pick up your packet on Friday to avoid race day crowds. Awards: Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers, top overall male and female masters finishers, as well as the top three in each age/gender category for the 5k run. Awards will not be given in the 5k walk. The children's 1 mile run is a fun run and all registered children will receive a collectible finishers medal at the finish line. Awards will also be given to the top fundraisers and to those with the best costumes (see above).

Fun for the Whole Family: In addition to a SUPER fun race, we will also have a meet and greet with real life local superheroes, music, bounce house or slide, festival activities, post-race kids dance party, and more!

Refund Policy: All registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable.

Stroller Policy: Due to the narrow path of this race course, strollers are discouraged in the 5K run for safety purposes. If you choose to push a stroller, you must start in the back and stay on the right side of the path at all times. Because the course is out and back and the path is narrow, strollers cannot line up side-by-side. This is for the safety of all participants.

Head Phone Policy: For safety reasons, headphones are not permitted on the course.

Assisted Athletes Information: Assisted athletes with disabilities are welcome. Both the assisted athlete and the pusher must register and sign the waiver but will each only pay half price for registration. Please register as an assisted athlete team to get your discount. Assisted athletes will have a 3-5 minute advance start for course safety purposes. On race day, please go to the front of the starting line and our team will get you lined up. We will also have several parking spaces reserved near the event. Please look for our parking attendants and let them know you are an assisted athlete team.

Pet Policy: For safety reasons, dogs and other pets are not permitted on the course.
