Event Description
The Peaks of Otter Christmas Classic 5k is celebrating 40 years! Join runners and walkers of all ages and abilities for this central Virginia holiday tradition. Children are also invited to participate in the "Peaks Junior" 1 Mile and 1/4 Mile fun run. Proceeds support the Bedford Area YMCA. This event is known for its friendly faces, caroling volunteers, and fun post-race celebration. The Town of Bedford Christmas Parade is traditionally held just after the event.

REGISTRATION:
5K: $25 (thru 11/29) || $30 (11/30 - 12/6) || $35 Race Day (12/7)
1 Mile "Junior Peaks": $12 (thru 11/29) || $15 (11/30-12/7)
PAPER REGISTRATION IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THIS EVENT
Registration fees are non-transferable & non-refundable. An entry can only be used for the person registered for the entry. Entries cannot be deferred to the following year or a future event.
T-SHIRTS:
World famous, long sleeve, 100% cotton t-shirts are available to those registered for the 5k and 1 Mile events by November 15th. After November 15th, t-shirts will be available at packet pickup on a first come basis. There is not a t-shirt for the 1/4 mile fun run.

Assisted Participants:
We are pleased to provide an opportunity for assisted participants to enjoy race day. An assisted participant is typically being pushed in a stroller "appropriate" for the event (ie.. hand break, tether, appropriate wheels). Both the participant being pushed and the pusher are required to register for this event. Assisted participants will start prior to the 5K start and be ranked separately from the 5k event.
AWARDS:
Top 4 Overall M/F, Top Overall Masters M/F, Top 3 in each age group. Overall awards ranked on "gun" time / Age group results ranked on "chip" time.
"Top of the Hill Challenge" $50 to the first male and female to reach the top of the "hill" (located approx. 1.5 miles from the start)
*This is a Chip timed event, Disposable MyLaps Race Bib Technology will be used.
TEAM COMPETITION:
Individuals have the option during registration to register as a team by selecting "I am on a team". Once selected, a team name is entered. A minimum of 5, regardless of gender, comprise a team. Teams are scored on time. It is important for each individual to enter the same "Team Name" to be on the same team. Awards will be given to the top 3 teams based on the lowest cumulative time of the 5 team members.
AGE GROUPS:
Festive, specialty, wooden ornament medals for age group awards
12 & under, 13-17, 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & up. Age Group ranking based on "chip" time.
NEW COURSE:
The new course start and finish is at Beale's Brewery, 510 Grove Street, Bedford, Virginia 24523. Participants for the 5k proceed on Grove Street, crossing Main Street at the Bower Center for the Arts, proceeding past Bedford Primary School and he Elks Home. The course continues up Lake Drive to Peaks Street and down to Avenel adn back across N. Bridge Street to Finish back at Beale's.
100% of the proceeds raised will go for scholarships to low and fixed income families, seniors and individuals which enables them to join the YMCA’s Health & Wellness and Childcare programs.
