Event Description

For decades, both Keep Blount Beautiful and the Little River Watershed Association have been advocating for an environmentally healthy Blount County through many events, programs, and educational initiatives. Keep Blount Beautiful and the Little River Watershed Association want to expand on our programming by providing a 5K run that encourages residents to take care of both themselves and their environment. All proceeds from the run will benefit Keep Blount Beautiful and the Little River Watershed Association’s programs and services such as LRWA's Stream School for Kids and KBB's various educational programs for kids.

The inaugural Little River Run 5K kicks off at 11am on Saturday, November 16th at the Townsend Abbey. Join Keep Blount Beautiful and Little River Watershed Association for a run along the Little River in view of the Great Smoky Mountains! This inaugural race is something we are proud to be able to put on for our community. The run begins at the Townsend Abbey at 7765 River Road, Townsend, Tennessee 37882, runs along a flat course right by the Little River, with the beautiful view of the Smoky Mountains in the distance. The race then curves to connect with the Townsend Historical Greenway for a short time before turning down a side road and then ending back at the Townsend Abbey. This race is a great way for runners and walkers alike to come out and support a good cause, the main goal for the Little River Run 5K is to educate residents on the importance of protecting our water sources while strengthening their community pride in Blount County.

Race info: This will be a chip-timed event! Walkers and runners of all ages are welcome. Early bird registration is $25 and ends October 31st! Race tickets will be $30 beginning November 1st. Children 12 and under can register for a rate of $15.

Weather: This race is in mid-November, but we all know how unpredictable east TN weather can be! Historically, the high in Townsend in November is 59 and the low is 35, so plan for a chill but be ready to get warmed up! Dress sensibly, don't pile on layers; the rule of thumb is to add 10 to 20 degrees to the outside temperature to calculate your running temperature.

After the run, hang out at the Townsend Abbey with us for lunch, drinks, educational opportunities, and giveaways! Runners and non-runners are welcome for the afterparty.
