Event Description
The 6th Annual Judy M. Merritt Memorial 5K will be a virtual run and challenge honoring Judy's memory while highlighting the 2020-2021 JSCC Graduates who have overcome so much to reach their goals this year! Run, walk or just register to support students like these, as all our proceeds from this race go to scholarships for JSCC students in need.
Runners will enjoy a low cost but highly rewarding 5K, as you have a month to work on improving your time to upload to Run signup! We will open results entry from April 6th - May 6th, 2021, ending the day before Graduation. Top Runners will be highlighted on our web page and through social media on our Graduation day, May 7th, 2021!
The 6th annual Judy M. Merritt Memorial 5K is held in honor of Jefferson State Community College’s former president Dr. Judy M. Merritt. Serving as President for 35 years, she was the first female president of an Alabama college; her leadership and vision were unparalleled. Judy, as she preferred to be called, embodied the spirit of Jefferson State and our mission to serve all in our community. “While the dream for many has been achieved, the fight for pathways to education, equality, and inclusion continues.” ~ Judy M. *Proceeds from the 5k are used to support student scholarships at Jefferson State.
Medals will be mailed to the top 3 male & female overall winners, as well as for the top age group winners.

Price: Virtual 5K - $20($15 for College Students and Ages 18 & Under - Use Code STUDENT at Checkout)
Price: Virtual Challenge/Sleep In 5k - $15
Both Virtual 5K participants and Virtual Challenge/Sleep In 5K participants will receive a "goody" package by mail that include a race logo face mask. Virtual 5K participants have the option to upload their best 5K time, competing for the medals. Virtual Challenge/Sleep In 5K participants are encouraged to challenge themselves to be more physically active and we certainly appreciate your donation to the Judy M. Merritt Memorial Scholarship fund!

Swag Bag Package: We will miss seeing you in person this year to distribute our awesome swag bags, but look forward to mailing you a little something special! Swag packages, including a race logo face mask, will be mailed to your address on file beginning April 26th.
Award Ceremony: We will announce the winners through social media and email on the morning of Jefferson State's Graduation, Friday, May 7th. We hope to provide a live stream announcement as well at the Alabama Theatre, onsite at JSCC's Graduation.
