Event Description

The Jerome Alston Memorial Foundation (JAM Foundation) is dedicated to positively impacting public awareness of the asthma epidemic. 

According to the latest Center for Disease Control (CDC) report, an estimated 24.6 million people suffer from asthma, with more than 3,500 people dying from fatal asthma attacks in 2016. Additionally, uncontrolled asthma episodes is one of the top reasons for emergency room visits and missed school days. 

Having experienced tragedy at the hands of this disease, JAM Foundation finds it critical to educate the community on resources that help asthma sufferers manage this disease. In addition to providing an opportunity to educate the public, the Breathe Easy 5k offers an opportunity to celebrate the lives of loved ones lost to the disease. With your help, we can continue our effort to educate communities and uplift asthma sufferers, as well as the memory of those lost to the disease.

Our annual Breathe Easy Asthma Awareness 5K Run/Walk & Health Expo (BE 5K) has helped with this effort since 2013.  This event started in Virginia and has since expanded to South Georgia, Los Angeles, Dallas and Oakland. 

Proceeds from the race will be used to provide health screenings to the community, assist with asthma associated medical expenses and to provide an effective educational experience at our Asthma Camp. Your participation in our annual 5K will help us make a bigger impact on the asthma community and bring a broader awareness to this chronic lung disease.
