Event Description

By registering for this Virtual 5K race you'll be joining The Run To Defeat ALS mission 

Race by yourself or form an entire team.  You don't even need to be a runner to race.  You can run, jog, walk, hop, skip, cartwheel or do anything that makes you smile at your own pace, on your own time and on your own route.  

ALS (aka Lou Gehrig's Disease) affects 5,000 people each year and usually strikes people between the ages of 40 and 70. Those with ALS may lose the ability to speak, eat, move and breathe.  The average life span from diagnosis is two to five years.  There is no cure.

We've all heard of, and maybe even participated in, the "Ice Bucket Challenge"   We are extremely grateful of how much awareness that movement brought to ALS.  This virtual race supports the ongoing efforts of what the Ice Bucket Challenge started.   

A portion of the proceeds of the Defeat ALS Virtual 5K will go directly to our partner charity, The Packard Center, in support of their ongoing ALS research.  

The Robert Packard Center for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins has been on forefront of ALS research for the past twenty years.  Their approach to research is one where they facilitate intense scientific collaboration across institutional and administrative boundaries.  Their aim is to provide innovative, promising, focused projects with researchers who understand that collaboration is a powerful catalyst in ending the disease.
