Voluntary Action Center

Voluntary Action Center, well known as VAC, provides services that address nutrition and transportation needs of our community. Incorporated in 1974, VAC is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of representatives from communities throughout our service area.

VAC supports the needs of the residents of DeKalb, Bureau, LaSalle, Kendall, and Putnam Counties. At VAC it is our goal to ensure the health, wellness, security and safety of those in need.

VAC is committed to serving the most vulnerable and most in need in. In DeKalb County we provide hundreds of meals each day to seniors and persons with disabilities through our Meals on Wheels service. VAC also feeds children when school is closed through our Summer Meals program. In normal times we have congregate sites for seniors where they can socialize and while enjoying a nutritious meal. Seniors and persons with disabilities are also served through our MedVAC transportation service, where clients can receive transportation to and from much needed health care such as dialysis and cancer treatment. Our TransVAC service allows those in need of transportation to visit such places as the grocery store, local medical appointments, and transportation to work. Both of our transportation services have a “dial a ride” service, in addition to affordable fares.

Volunteers are the heart and soul of Voluntary Action Center and help us in the success of our services. Our Meals on Wheels service is helped made possible by volunteer drivers that deliver meals to client's homes with the use of their own vehicles. Our volunteers also assist in our Summer Meal program, congregate sites, and MedVAC ride services.
