Event Description

This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the Guardians of the Night K9 5K, presented by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department K9 Unit. The event began a decade ago as a way to raise vital funds to support and protect all the dogs in the unit. It took on additional meaning in 2011, when K9 Fargo was killed in the line of duty. The event now serves as a way to honor Fargo’s memory while ensuring all the dogs in the K9 unit have food, veterinary care, and safety equipment, including custom-fit ballistic vests for each dog.

Going Virtual

We love bringing the community together for this event and we know staying active is important for our mental and physical wellbeing. However, in light of COVID-19 concerns, we made the decision to take the Guardians of the Night K9 5K virtual.

So, how does it work?

Step 1: Get registered!
Step 2: Download an app to your mobile device to track your distance and your time. A few suggestions are Strava, Run Keeper, or Map My Run.
Step 3: Walk, jog, or run your 5k on a treadmill, on the road, or wherever you choose between the dates of July 19 and July 25.
Step 4: Take some photos and share them with us on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter! Don’t forget to tag us and use the hashtag #RCSDK9Run.
Step 5: When you’re finished, submit your results through the RESULTS option at the top of this page.
Step 6: After the event, watch your mailbox for your race swag!

Most importantly, HAVE FUN!

What about the swag? We love swag!

All registered participants will receive our 2020 Guardians of the Night t-shirt!

Participants who finish the 5k and submit their results, will receive a limited edition RCSD K9 neck gaiter! It will keep your neck cool during your next run and even double as a mask!
