Event Description
Ache Around the Lake is an annual race held at Lake Lanier in Landrum, SC and Tryon, NC. Yes, you actually race in 2 states! The race is an 8K course which is 4.97 miles, but don't come here looking for a PR because this course is HILLY! While the race does start on a descent you are greeted with GRUNT #1 after just over 1/4 mile into the race. While that is probably the steepest hill on the course the others will quickly make your legs burn and force even the strongest runner to walk. Under normal circumstances we offer aid stations but in an effort to keep things safe for COVID 19 we will simply offer grab and go cups of water at mile 2 and again around mile 4.
Speaking of COVID we will NOT be taking race day registrations unless you go back to your car and register online BUT there is no cell signal in the parking lot so to avoid frustration please register BEFORE you arrive. This will allow you to pick up your race number/timing chip is attached and t-shirt and walk back to your car. Depending on what the gathering guidelines are for NC at this point we will need to be aware of where we are in relation to others.
Our race will be "socially distant" in so much as that we will start runners in waves of 25 people OR if need be individual starts every 10 seconds. During registration, participants of the OUCH 2 MILE, the ACHE 8K, and the TRAUMA 12.4 MILE CHALLENGE will be asked to select a wave start time. If possible, please register your family together in the same wave. You will be asked to be socially distant within each wave (line up 6 feet apart). Much of this start process will depend on COVID regulations at the time of the race. As the race date approaches, we will email all participants with more details and specific start times as we may have to change the original plan. We will have volunteers to help remind athletes to stay socially distant and safe before the start of the race.
Packet pick-up will be quick and easy on race morning packet pick-up will begin at 6:00 am in the parking lot of the Tryon Antique Mall (1005 S. Trade Street, Tryon, NC) (the old Save-A-Lot) across the street from El Sureno Mexican Restaurant on Hwy 176. The day before the race you may pick up your race bib and t-shirt at St. Luke's Hospital Foundation (89 West Mills Street, Suite B, Columbus, NC 28722) from 9 am-1:00 pm.
AWARDS - Official results can be found online later in the day. We are not doing traditional awards after the race (AWARDS will be MAILED) because we do not want large groups of people standing around after the race. You can sign up for results notifications via text or email during registration.

AFTER EATS - We will be handing out little bags of food and water after each person finishes. For obvious reasons we do not want food out so we will package it up for you!
