Dia de Los Muertos honors the dead with festivals and lively celebrations and can include food, drink, parties, and activities that the dead enjoyed in life. Dia de Los Muertos recognizes death as a natural part of the human experience. The most familiar symbol of this celebration includes skeletons and skulls, typically portrayed with bright colors, fancy clothes, and entertaining situations. Ofrendas, or alters, are also used to honor the dead. They often have flowers, candles food, drinks, photos, and personal mementos of the person being remembered.
The proceeds from the Dia de Los Muertos Fun Run will go towards caring for the patients at BSA Hospice of the Southwest. The money will be donated to two hospice foundations; Olivia’s Angels and Crown of Texas Hospice Foundation. Both foundations give generously to the patients in hospice care. The foundations can assist them with basic needs such as food, clothing, shelter, and education, as well as, fulfilling the dreams and wishes of the patients.
The registration cost is $30 for one person or $100 for a team of 4. This cost includes a t-shirt, running bag, and the entrance fee for the race. Deadline to ensure a t-shirt is October 6, 2019. To register please visit our website at https://www.hospicesouthwest.com/dia-de-los-muertos.
