Event Description
Arise2Read Walker County is having its first annual Storybook Character 5K and Family Fun Run. What a GREAT reason to come run with us! Runners may choose the 5K or the 1 Mile Fun Run. Everyone will get a T-shirt, a goodie bag, and those who cross the finish line will receive a FINISHER medal! Runners who choose to dress as their favorite storybook character may win a prize if picked by our judges.
This race will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 8:00 am in Huntsville, TX. We will begin and end in the parking lot of University Heights Baptist Church. (See race route below.)

WHY WE RUN: SAVE A CHILD. SAVE A FAMILY. SAVE A CITY.
All proceeds benefit Arise2Read Walker County, a literacy program that allows volunteers to take an active role in the lives of children in our public schools by tutoring students one hour per week. As an organization, we desire to impact the lives of children, teachers, families, and the community by enhancing the quality of public education through our tutoring program, as well as create a ministry of loving care for students to see they are valued and precious to God. Funds raised could help with the day to day costs of running this 501(c)3 organization, training of volunteers, materials for tutoring, backpacks for 2nd grade students, and more.
The wellbeing of the entire Huntsville community depends upon a successful and high achieving school system. Arise2Read is becoming an integral part of these efforts by providing caring volunteers who not only help students build confidence and feel successful but also encourage teachers that their community is behind them.
Together, we can SAVE A CHILD, SAVE A FAMILY, SAVE A CITY.

PACKET PICK UP AND RACE DAY REGISTRATION
Packet Pick up will be Friday, November 6, 2020 from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm; Location TBD
Race Day Registration will be available, and we can accept cash or check at the race site. You may also register on-line via credit card that morning as early as 7:00 am to avoid the late registration crowd. ***T-shirt sizes/availability cannot be guaranteed after early registration.
***To ensure you get your appropriate t-shirt size, it is best to register by October 24, 2020 by 11:59 pm.***

SPECIAL INFORMATION
We have a VIRTUAL option available for those who live too far away to attend the live run OR for those who are not comfortable participating with a crowd at this time. If you register for virtual option, and you are local, we ask that you pick up your race packet at the pre-race packet pick up on Friday, November 6 before the race. If you are not local, we will be happy to mail your race packet to you (for virtual participants only)!
Participant Guidelines
Let's have fun but also stay safe and respectful of other's space during the race!
The safety of our runners, families, and volunteers is our top priority. Based on CDC and state guidelines and best practices, the following rules will apply:
- Do not attend if you are sick or have been in the last 14 days.
- Do not attend if you have been near anyone with Covid-19 symptoms.
- Social distancing and masks are encouraged where lines could be formed (registration, food, restrooms, etc.)
- Do not congregate (except with people from your own household).
- Participants are encouraged to bring a face covering, although wearing it is not required during the run.
- Cover your cough or sneeze.
- Participants are encouraged to stay safely, socially distanced during the run.
- Runners are encouraged to use hand sanitizer.
- Hand washing stations/hand sanitizer will be available at portable toilets.
- All of our equipment and station areas will be cleaned and sanitized for your protection.
- Please BE RESPECTFUL--any used water cups/bottles should be disposed in the trash receptacles provided.
- Try an Air High 5, instead of handshakes, hugs, etc.

RACE RULES
- All age groups are welcome and encouraged! (We'd love to see you as your favorite storybook character.)
- Baby joggers and strollers are allowed, but please assemble at the back of the pack at the start of the race.
- Participants must stay on the official course at all times.
- Most importantly, have FUN on the RUN!
