Event Description

Walk4Healing is a Virtual Walk/Run event to raise both funds and awareness on providing support and treatment to adult survivors of abuse and sexual trauma.

Walk a Mile in My Shoes

The funds that you help to raise in support of Walk 4 Healing Virtual Run/Walk goes to provide program and operating expenses to provide support to any survivor of abuse and sexual trauma who is seeking support on their journey of healing.  We provide support groups, workshops, newsletters, information and referrals for survivors.  These support services are free to survivors.  We provide support to survivors nationwide.  The dollars we raise together will help to advance our mission of providing compassionate support.  Because of Covid, our technology platforms have increased significantly in cost to provide our survivors with the best safety we can provide as they receive support through online services.

Our goal is to empower survivors, raise awareness of abuse and sexual trauma and to provide an opportunity for survivors to receive support as they work through their trauma.  The impact of abuse and sexual trauma on the lives of a survivor are great.  From emotional, mental, physical, sexual, spiritual abuse, to attempted rape, rape, and sex trafficking, we are here to provide support.   Common issues that survivors experience after a trauma are depression, anxiety, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), dissociation, addictions and more.  We strive to increase the awareness of those who come in contact with our program that not only is support available, but that we want to help supportive others to better understand the struggle that survivors have and how to help.

Covid-19 has impacted all of us in some ways.  For our clients, there has been increased isolation, difficulty with having consistent treatment with their mental health professionals in some situations, and increased anxiety in general.  For those who are not yet out of violent relationships, we know that the National Domestic Violence Center has reported a significant increase in domestic violence numbers.  We were online before Covid and we plan to continue to remain online to support those who are out of their abusive situations and to be here for those who find themselves in situations of sexual assault and who leave abusive relationships.  Our groups via Zoom and on Facebook provide an outlet of support and hope for survivors.  Many survivors who have joined in our groups have shared that it has helped tremendously to meet other survivors who who can understand their experience without having to share all the details.
