Event Description

The year 2020 has proven to be quite an unpredictable year for all of us. For the past 16 years, the District 54 Run to Read has been a race dedicated to promoting health and wellness for all ages. With that in mind, our 17th annual Run to Read is going virtual. Current state guidelines don't allow for us to gather more than 1,000 people at Dirksen School on Sept. 27.

However, by going virtual, you can still participate in your favorite local race, by running as a family. In addition, all money raised this year will be donated to the D54 Foundation Crisis Fund, to provide food and other necessary supplies to District 54 families who are struggling financially during this pandemic.

As in years past, you can choose from a variety of distances - and because we are virtual we have added some additional events. Our youngest runners can sprint down their sidewalk in a 100-yard dash. Older children can select a 400-yard dash, half-mile run or 1-mile run. Finally, children and adults can sign up for a full 5K (3.1 miles) or 10K (6.2 miles) run. Pick the distance that works for you and map out a route near your home. If walking is more your style, pick a distance and walk it instead.

Another benefit of social distance running is that we are extending the Run to Read from a one-day event to an entire weekend. Run or walk anytime from Sept. 25-27 and submit your time when you're done. And don't forget to take a photo and tag us on social, or use the hashtag #54Run2Read.
