Event Description

Every year the Cambridge 5k Freedom Run races through East Cambridge hosted by the Cambridge Business Association, sponsored by several local brewing companies. They run for "Freedom and Local Beer."

Since everything is virtual this year; we have decided to create our own run and race for something that is currently affecting us globally.

MRCC recognizes the societal benefits provided by access to safe, high quality marijuana products, education, and the need for an equitable market where medium and small sized businesses can thrive. We run  to "Release the Cannabis Prisoners" and are seeking to further expose local consumers to not only responsible cannabis consumption but real representation of black and brown communities in the cannabis sector.

MRCC is assembling a coalition of active cannabis consumers and locally operated small businesses to further a higher standard of cannabis products and companies in the regulated market. Each runner will register and we would greatly appreciate that runners raise a suggested minimum of $200 via the donate button. Then from October 18th-31st, 100s of cannabis consumers join together virtually on a run for cannabis social justice throughout greater Boston, the country and the world!

Run for Returning Citizens is looking to be our largest community gathering and fundraiser of the year. We had close to 100 cannabis runners and volunteers in our past 5k. Funds will go to supporting:

1. Advocating for the consumer interests on a state and municipal level;

  • Bill S.2650
  • CCC open comment period on draft regulations
  • Cannabis growers market project

2. Providing educational trainings and workshops to municipalities and the state;

  • Expungement clinics
  • Voter Registration drives

3. Mobilizing constituents to lobby for equity on a state and municipal level;

  • Lobbying workshops
  • Testimony trainings

4. Sharing wholistic cooperative models and best practices to community members and stakeholders.

  • Cooperative community engagement sessions
  • Cooperative returning citizens game project
